Chase Wright Discusses Career Beginnings and "Hurt No More"
Chase Wright has quickly become a sought-after artist in Nashville. The Indiana native moved to music city as a songwriter before he focused on his own material. Several viral songs and an album later, Wright now has even more experience under his belt. Ahead of co-headlining The Nash News' concert at Cowboy Up in Greenville, SC on October 22nd, Wright talked to us about all things music.
While many struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic, Wright used that time to his advantage. He started putting out songs he had recorded to see if anyone would listen, and sure enough, many did. "When I started putting music out, I didn't know what to expect. I just posted them and used social media in the best way I knew how," he shares. Songs such as "Wish You'd Miss Me" and "Why Should We" have helped the singer rack up plenty of streams on Spotify and Apple Music. Wright went on to note how important social media has been to his career. "In college, I was a digital art major. The creation aspect is something I like to do, which is why I enjoy controlling the content in that way," explains Wright.
Wright's debut album, Intertwined was released in 2021. "The album was two and a half years in the making. We tried to pick the best songs I had without any of the fluff," he states. When asked which song has meant the most to him, the answer was immediate. "'Wish You'd Miss Me' was written at a time when I was really going through it. I wrote that one after we cut 'Drive,' 'Why Should We,' and 'My Kinda Morning,' Wright exclaims. "Wish You'd Miss Me" showcases the vulnerability that can be found in the singer-songwriter's lyricism. He discusses his openness sharing, "Being vulnerable has always come naturally to me. It's like a therapy session."
"Hurt No More" is Wright's newest release. On how the song came to be, Wright says, "A co-writer from 'Missing You' played me this song that I knew I had to hop on. We wrote the rest of the song over speakerphone. I'm fired up about it." The track, like a lot of his material, contains lyrics from the heart. Wright's releases are often hypnotizing when it comes to their melodies, and "Hurt No More" is no exception.
Wright is eager to perform at Cowboy UP in Greenville, SC this weekend. "I haven't been to the east coast all that much. I did play a string of shows in North Carolina and it was really amazing," says Wright. Thie gig will also be a full-circle moment for Wright as he is co-headlining with Chris Bandi. "I used to cover a lot of Chris Bandi songs when I was in college, so I'm really excited for the show."
"Being an independent artist gives you a lot of flexibility, which I enjoy," exclaims Wright when discussing upcoming music releases and what his fans can expect next. He continues, "I've got a couple [of] songs recorded now, it's just a matter of when."
