Clay Walker Discusses TikTok and His Favorite Rising Artists

While making a stop at Country Jam USA in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, The Nash News got to chat with country music hitmaker Clay Walker about navigating TikTok, rising artists he's keeping his eyes on, and his most recent single "Catching up With An Ol' Memory."

With 11 number-one hits under his belt and an almost 30-year career, Clay Walker is no stranger to the country music genre and industry. And since his time in the game, a lot has changed, and he's had a front-row seat to witness the ever-changing shift. "It's been a great seat to sit in and be able to still be here and see how it has changed and how it's evolved. You always hope that it will," he told us. "It's so diverse now."

Along with the industry configuring with the times, so has the way artists have had to engage with their audience. TikTok seems to reign supreme for every creative, and Walker has found ways to use it for his own advantage that doesn't feel time-consuming or draining. Since he started his account, he's accumulated over 1.3 million followers and 11 million total likes. "I guess the best way that I've been able to communicate with people is not to use it as a promotional tool. You know, just being who I am, and I had no idea that people were gonna enjoy the lifestyle stuff so much," he shared before adding, "My favorite part is the duets."

Social media has also led Walker to discover new and rising talent. "There's several new artists that I love. One of my favorites is Randall King, I think he's great," he exclaims. "I do like Alexandra Kay. She's great on TikTok as well." Walker also mentioned that Kay gets brownie points for sending him a bottle of wine after he duetted her on the mega-popular platform.

Walker's latest project is Texas to Tennessee, an LP that came out in July of 2021; most of the songs on the record were written over the course of the pandemic. He is currently promoting his single "Catching Up With An Ol' Memory." "We had a great time writing it. Sometimes those songs just write themselves and this one did. It's my favorite song on the new album," he stated. As he continue on he also praised his other favorite entries like "I Just Wanna Hold You" and "You Look Good." "I like all of 'em. Most of these songs were written directly about my wife and my life. So, it's very personal."
