Conner Smith "Creek Will Rise" Song Review

Conner Smith is a 22-year-old country music prodigy. His latest single “Creek Will Rise” solidifies Smith’s place in music as more than a new set of boots. The Nashville native is making a name for himself. “Creek Will Rise” is a surprising stylistic shift for Smith, with his earlier hits being slow, highly produced, country pop; and this latest release a hillbilly anthem.

Anytime a young artist takes on a classic country sound, fans respond. Smith does this with excellence. “Creek Will Rise” is by far Smith’s best work. His evolution as a musician is exactly what fans are looking for. Reminiscent of Alan Jackson, Smith leans on a fiddle-heavy instrumental, and a fast-paced swinging beat. Smith tells a classic, muddy, country love story, singing, “I’m holdin’ on tight, praying and hoping / This truck battery dies, or the road’s too muddy to drive / Stay right here all night if the good Lord’s willing / That creek will rise”

“Creek Will Rise” is Smith’s first release of 2023, and he starts off strong. Smith pushes the younger generation of country artists further in the right direction with his latest hit. Smith is a young artist to watch. His latest release is sure to imprint him into the fabric of Nashville.
