Country Artists Who Were in Greek Life

Updated: Sep 16, 2022

It's hard to believe that our favorite country artists are just like us in ways that we have normal lives that include going to college and maybe joining Greek life. Some of the biggest, modern country artists went Greek during their time at college. Here is a list of some of your favorite artists and what fraternity or sorority they joined.

1. Carrie Underwood

During Carrie Underwood’s time at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma, she pledged to one of the most well-known sororities Sigma Sigma Sigma. Any time Underwood is asked about her time in Tri Sigma she speaks very highly of it and how much fun she had while in her chapter. And if you meet any Tri Sigma one of the first things they will tell you loudly and proudly is that this country star is one of their sisters.

2. Tim McGraw

Country Music star Tim McGraw is a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha. He has even worn his letters during some of his concerts. Mcgraw is a part of the Eta Omicron Chapter of PIKE at Northeast Louisiana University.

3. Sheryl Crow

Sherly Crow did not wear just one set of greek letters, but three. Crow is a Kappa Alpha Theta along with Sigma Alpha Iota, The University of Missouri's musical sorority, and Omicron Delta Kappa: the university's secret society. Not only is she a versatile musician but a versatile greek.

4. Kenny Chesney

While Kenny Chesney studied Advertising at East Tennessee State University, he also was a proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha. He even plays an ode to his chapter in his song “Keg in The Closet.”

5. Cole Swindell

Georgia Southern University has a large Greek community, which is why it is no shock Cole Swindell found a home there. Swindell proudly wears the letters of Sigma Chi. They must be a great frat because another one of our favorite artists is also a brother.

6. Luke Bryan

Along with Cole Swindell, Luke Bryan is a proud brother of Sigma Chi at Georgia Southern University. Bryan looks back at his time in Greek life with his song “Sorority Girl” which talks about his wife who was in a sorority at GSU along with mentioning some other sororities on campus.

7. Willie Nelson

Although Willie Nelson’s time in greek life was short-lived, before he rocketed to the top of the charts, this star was in Tau Kappa Epsilon at Baylor University.

8. Thomas Rhett

Lipscomb University was pretty lucky to have Thomas Rhett join Greek life, where at his Tau Phi parties he would sometimes perform live.

9. Dierks Bentley

Before transferring from the University of Vermont to Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Bently joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

10. Zac Brown

Last but certainly not least, Zac Brown. Brown was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order at the University of West Georgia. Here is where he started playing some of his first shows and finding himself as a country artist.
