Country music is alive and well in the Golden State. Here are our top picks for the best country and bluegrass bars with live music in California. Check them out if you’re in the area.
1. Sassafras Saloon
In “the heart of Hollywood," a Savannah townhouse was converted to the Sassafras Saloon, a rustic joint that brings the warmth and sound of the south to Vine Street. Country bands play live every Saturday and Sunday. There’s an authentic New Orleans atmosphere – antique bar tools and charms, wicker chairs, and a creaky conveyer belt above the bar that displays bottle-aged drinks that are in constant rotation.
2. The Cowboy Palace Saloon
It’s the “last real honkey tonk” in Los Angeles. The Cowboy Palace Saloon has a happy hour, pool tables, live music, and only a $10 cover charge. Come in and dance the night away to some of the best live country music in LA.
3. Moonshine Flats
Moonshine Flats is often called “an in-your-face honkey tonk experience with a sexy edge.” DJs play top country, rock, and pop music to get the party started and keep it going all night. This San Diego joint has a massive wooden dance floor/audience area, world-class sound and lighting, a full stage, and one of the largest LED screens in Southern California.
It’s San Diego’s “go-to place to see live music, party, and let loose!”
4. The Ranch Saloon
Who would’ve thought you could find country music and line dancing in Orange County? Look no further than the Ranch Saloon. Located right next door to The Ranch Restaurant with its own private entrance you can look forward to the 47' LongHorn Bar and the 27' Mustang Bar in between dancing the two-step and line dancing–all to your favorite local country bands or DJ.
