Country Music Showdown – Alexandra Kay vs. Thomas Mac

In this edition of Country Music Showdown, we sit down with Alexandra Kay and Thomas Mac, who have both recently been on tour with Cooper Alan. In catching up with the country stars, we learn about how Kay had just recently gotten married and is also working on a new project set to be released soon. We also learn about the third leg of the Cooper Alan tour which she will be a part of. Meanwhile, Mac is getting ready to release a new single, which is set to release in November 2021.

The Country Music Showdown began with “Recommend the Song,” in which our country artists had to suggest songs from other musicians. Starting with Tim McGraw, Kay recommended: “Don’t Take the Girl” while Mac recommended “Red Ragtop,” although both praised McGraw on his storytelling abilities through his songs. They continued with Maren Morris, where Alexandra selected “Sugar” as her pick, with Mac in agreement. To finish off the round, Thomas recommended his top song of Luke Combs, “Can I Get an Outlaw,” while Kay recommended the equally melodious “Cold as You.”

Entering the scoring portion of the game, Kay and Mac went head to head in “Country Music Trivia”, where Ma earned the first point in guessing which 90s country music classic was currently going viral on Tiktok with a new dance: “Neon Moon.” Kay ended up pulling ahead in this round with three consecutive points. She was able to correctly identify Cassidy Pope’s starting show (The Voice), as well as Kelsea Ballerini’s debut album title (The First Time) and the famous singer, featured on Jason Aldean’s track “Don’t You Wanna Stay” (Kelly Clarkson). It was Mac who closed out the round by naming the Reba song which is a current trend on Tiktok, “I’m a Survivor.”

The next round, “Name the Artist,” had the singers neck and neck, with Kay and Mac rotating between who was earning a point until the final point in guessing the two artists behind the song “Freedom Was a Highway” with Mac naming Brad Paisley and Kay naming Jimmie Allen, the two ended up splitting the points, bringing their scores closer together as they entered the final round.

In the last round, “Finish the Lyric,” Mac again set the bar high as he finished the lyrics for Shania Twain’s “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” but Kay came back and earned herself a point in finishing the lyric for “Three Wooden Crosses.” She continued her streak as the round continued and maintained her lead, but it was Thomas who ultimately closed out the game with a point for himself in finishing the lyric for the song “Suds in the Bucket” by Sara Evans.

In the end, it was Kay who won with a score of eight as opposed to Mac’s six. We can’t wait for both of the artists’ new music and look forward to hearing more from them in the coming months.
