‘From Cradle to Stage’ Dave Grohl’s Docuseries Review
Just in time for Mother’s Day, you can now stream From Cradle to Stage on Paramount+.
“The relationship between a mother and a musician, it inspires everything.” – Dave Grohl
From Cradle to Stage is a new docuseries, produced by MTV, about the rise of some of today’s most popular artists. The series is hosted by Dave Grohl, who was the drummer for Nirvana and is now the lead singer and guitarist for The Foo Fighters, and is co-hosted by his mother, Virginia Hanlon Grohl.
The series features the two of them going from one artist to another, by episode, where Dave interviews the artist and Virginia interviews their mother. The artists featured include country stars Miranda Lambert and Brandi Carlile, as well as Geddy Lee (the bass guitarist of Rush), Tom Morello, Dan Reynolds (from Imagine Dragons), and Pharrell Williams.
This idea started a while ago, when Virginia wrote a book interviewing musicians’ mothers, but this time she wanted to go further in-depth with each person and get the artist’s perspective as well. Each episode is about 45 minutes to an hour, which allows each person to really get into the nitty-gritty parts of their life, giving an up-close look at their upbringing, their rise to fame, and the struggles of success.
The series features both heartwarming and heavy topics, all the way from religion to activism to depression.
The episode about Miranda Lambert is just like the star herself. Some moments are hilarious, heartwarming, and some moments might even bring you to tears. It closely follows the ups and downs of Lambert’s rise to fame and the way that it affected her relationship with momager Bev. This episode even focuses on her father, more so than the other episodes, as he played a critical role in her success. If you’re only going to watch one episode, as a country music fan, that is the episode to watch.
From Cradle to Stage is at the same time interesting and informative, while also being really entertaining. It features live performances at every stage of the artists’ careers, really showing how they grew as musicians, while also showcasing impressive vocals and instrumentals.
All-in-all, From Cradle to Stage is definitely worth a watch. By the end of each episode, you will have a greater appreciation for the hard work that stars put in. You might even find yourself motivated to pursue your own dreams.
You can stream each episode now on Paramount+.
