Georgia Webster Talks New EP and Touring with Kelsea Ballerini
Georgia Webster is already proving to be a special talent in Nashville. With a self-proclaimed "country-ish" style, she has the ability to appeal to a whole spectrum of music lovers. Webster's new EP, Chapter 1: Things We're Not Saying, arrived on Friday, September 23rd. This past weekend marked the beginning of Kelsea Ballerini's 'HEARTFIRST Tour' where Webster stars as the opener. Webster chatted with The Nash News to discuss all of the good things coming her way.
The singer-songwriter began her love affair with music in a unique way. "My mom brought back a CD of African Lullabies when my parents went to Africa when I was like three. They used to play it when I was still in the crib. That's my first memory of music," shares Webster. Musicians are often products of their environment, and Webster stated that even though she hails from Massachusetts, that doesn't mean her environment wasn't country. "I'm from the boons. My dad dropped me off in Nashville in his big dump truck," says Webster. Her musical inspirations range in genre, and she hopes to showcase the singer-songwriter sound that incorporates pop melodies in today's country.
Chapter 1 is an EP that includes a lot of her first co-writes she had in Nashville. Webster graduated from high school and immediately moved to music city, so these songs capture the experience of change and growth. "I had a long-distance relationship that ended, and then I was living alone for the first time and jumping into being an adult. These songs are about that transition period for me," shared Webster.
"John Mayer Songs" was cited by Webster as being her current favorite off of the record but she admits that, "it changes every day." These new tracks demonstrate the different sides of the singer. She displays vulnerability and personality with every line she sings. "Tattoos" is one of the stand-outs based on an acoustic soundscape and lyricism. Webster embodies what it means to be an authentic artist.
Webster's manager had asked her to come by the office one day for an interview, however, it wasn't really an interview. "My manager and my other manager were just waiting there looking at me, waiting for me to answer this call. I answered and it was Kelsea Ballerini," Webster recounts. The call was Ballerini asking Webster to join the 'HEARTFIRST Tour,' and of course, Webster said yes. When they were in rehearsals, Webster was impressed by the production as she notes, "I think people are gonna be blown away."
Ballerini has become more than an artist to Webster, she's also a mentor and friend. "I grew up listening to her. I was ten doing karaoke to 'Dibs,'" she exclaims. This tour is sure to be a full-circle moment for the singer-songwriter. Webster went on to say, "She and Taylor Swift are two of the girls who helped shape my writing. I sent her [Ballerini] one of my songs the other day and she gave me advice. I really respect her opinion."
Webster also shared a message to her fans, and to anyone who listens to her EP as she notes candidly, "Thank you for listening and thank you for waiting so long. Music takes a while for me to get to a good point with it. I just hope they can relate to it; that's the number one thing."
