Hailey Whitters 'I'm In Love' EP Review

Hailey Whitters is ready to usher in a new era of music. The singer-songwriter has released her new EP, aptly titled I'm In Love. On this project, Whitters continues to bring authenticity and individual style that makes her a star on the rise.

Whitters happens to be a proud native of Iowa, which inspired her 2022 album Raised. That record won critical acclaim and proved she was different from her peers. Her music reflects the classic country sounds of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton while still sounding contemporary. Her song "Everything She Ain't" has taken Nashville by storm and helped her win New Female Artist of the Year at the 2023 ACM Awards.

The new project is produced by Whitters and Jake Gear. The presence of 90s country is evident, and it suits Whitters to a T. "T'ier Down" and the title track were released ahead of the EP. Both songs signified that the singer feels right at home in the new music she has created. "My last two LPs were concept records - The Dream being about my Nashville experience, and Raised was a love letter to the heartland I'm from. Both of these records are foundational to who I am. Along the way I've lived a lot of life and learned a lot about myself, and I'm excited to get more personal and straight from the heart with this next chapter," Whitters shared in a press release.

"Bad Love" brings the honky-tonk flare. Whitters sings about all of the attempts for love that have gone wrong; however, there is a humorous quality that doesn't make it sound as somber as one would think. "Thank God for the bad love / Slow song kinda sad love / The weepin' like a willow make up on your pillowcase / And the wantin' what you had love / Never gonna get him back love." The singer proves that it's important to be grateful for the things that haven't worked out because what's meant to be will always prevail.

"Countryside Chick" pretty much sums up the record, and Whitters, perfectly. One can't help but see how this song feels more personal to her. She would much rather be out in the country than under the bright lights of the city. Her definition of a "Countryside Chick" is the kind of woman you settle down and build a life with. "If you're a little more one girl man / Wanna buy a ring that don't leave my hand / I'm it, the main bit." Whitters will always write and sing what comes most naturally to her, and the country music genre is better off because of that.
