Harper Grace "Oh Say Can You See" Song Review

Rising star Harper Grace has a new single just in time for summer. The singer released "Oh Say Can You See," and it will surely reach an entirely new audience with its impactful message for young women.

Not many can say they were on track to be an Olympic gymnast, but Grace can. She instead decided to pursue a career in music. She is a multi-instrumentalist talent that has a truly captivating sound. Grace went on to have a successful run on American Idol in 2018. Since moving to Nashville, she has opened for artists such as Luke Bryan and Jake Owen. Grace's most recent release, "Sparkle," showcases her creativity and writing abilities in a dazzling fashion.

"Oh Say Can You See" begins with a beautiful piano introduction. The lyrics soon reveal that this song is meant to be an anthem for those who feel pushed aside; in fact, it acts as an ode to Grace's younger self. She sings an inspiring message to never lose sight of one's individuality. "It don't matter what they think / And sometimes walking through the dark is the only way out / Hey younger me / You'll get back off your knees / And up on a stage one day singing to the crowd / Oh say can you see me now."

The title along with the lyricism found in the chorus takes a universally known line from The Star-Spangled Banner and turns it into a personal anecdote; it's clever, unique, and showcases Grace's standout approach to her storytelling. Grace's autobiographical anthem is bound to strike a chord with many.
