Ingrid Andress 'Good Person (Deluxe)' Album Review

On Friday, March 3rd, Ingrid Andress released the deluxe version of her sophomore album, Good Person. This album includes three new songs entitled “Treated Me Good," “Wish You Would," and a collaboration with JP Saxe called “Runnin." The deluxe LP was released in the beginning stages of Andress’ tour that will take her through the United States and Europe.

The first of the three bonus entries, “Treated Me Good," was the perfect song to introduce the extended project. The piano at the beginning calls back to the vibes of an old One Direction song but perfectly blends with the hints of country stylings that come in. The best part of this entire song hands down is the pre-chorus. The lyrics and guitar playing in sync really helps to emphasize the lyrics and creates tension throughout the track as it’s reused. It also features some of the best lyrics. The lines “I wish you stole all my favorite records / Slept with a friend I’ve had forever” are quite effective for communicating the story she’s trying to tell. The introduction of the drums in the second verse only adds depth to the tune. Not only does it help build intensity, but it makes the second chorus feel like an epic confession from Andress as she sings.

“Wish You Would” can be described as a track that radiates pure love and positivity. From the songwriting to the actual instrumentation, it feels like it should play while someone roller skates down a sunny street. One thing that Ingrid Andress seems to have a complete grasp of is the idea of building tension in a song. She creates hills and valleys of energy throughout “Wish You Would” by removing and adding instruments. One key example of this is the drums coming in halfway through the first verse. Just the simple lead in the drummer plays changes the feel of the song. She also has guitar riffs throughout the song that don’t last long but help break up the verses.

The last bonus track on Good Person (Deluxe) is “Runnin" which features singer-songwriter JP Saxe. This offering differs the most from the bonus tracks due to its tamer nature. It's a great vessel for the story it tells. Lines like, “fFfth grade / the first time I dyed my hair” and “Maybe there’s a past I’m runnin from / But it feels a lot like runnin to you” are vivid lyrics that allow the audience to understand the love between the two character’s played by Andress and Saxe. The simplicity of the tune allowed the harmonies to shine and grow throughout the runtime. They started subtly but ended the song loud, yet comfortably.
