Jelly Roll "NEED A FAVOR" Song Review
Jelly Roll has surprised his fans by releasing a brand new song titled, "NEED A FAVOR." The rising star is set to debut the song at his sold-out Bridgestone Arena show tonight, December 9th.
This singer-songwriter is shaping up to be one of the more dynamic, and exciting voices coming out of Nashville today. Originally named Jason DeFord, his nickname came from his mother when she would call him Jelly Roll. Not only an artist in the country genre, Jelly Roll has had success within rock and rap as well. It's hard to get in the car, turn on country radio, and not hear anything but his rising hit, "Son Of A Sinner." That track has catapulted the Nashville native to new heights. With the release of the raw and honest "she," Jelly Roll proves he is a true artist only beginning to scratch the surface.
"Need A Favor" sounds exactly like what so many feel, but might be too ashamed to admit. Jelly Roll exclaims, "I only talk to God when I need a favor / And I only pray when I ain't got a prayer." When people feel they have reached the bottom, it's only natural to call out for help.
The combination of rock and country is easy to find on this song. He speaks with raw authenticity that it's impossible not to believe every word he sings. Everyone needs a helping hand at times, and Jelly Roll is able to capture that perfectly on this track. The line, "Who the Hell am I to expect a savior," brings true humility to the forefront. It's refreshing to see this kind of writing from today's artists.
