Kane Brown “Whiskey Sour” Song Review
Kane Brown is starting the new year with the release of his new song “Whiskey Sour” on January 14th. Brown was quite visible in 2021 with the releases of his singles “One Mississippi,” “Blessed and Free” with Grammy award-winning artist H.E.R., and “Memory” with pop artist blackbear. Fans of his have been anxiously awaiting this release since a snippet of this song was shared on his social media accounts in early December.
A notable feature of “Whiskey Sour” is the vivid imagery and storytelling that takes place in the lyrics. The song was written by Adam Craig, Jaxson Free, and Josh Hoge, which gives listeners insight into the context of Brown’s caption stating, “I love getting to sing other people’s stories.” This track is a somber breakup song that ruminates on what was, what is, and what could’ve been. He sums up all those emotions exclaming, “And I’ve never been a somber soul/ But part of me ain’t here no more/ And I’ve been trying to find him ever since.” Those lines alone tell a heartbreakingly relatable story that many listeners can place themselves in.
“Whiskey Sour” will remind fans of the early days of the singer-songwriter’s career, back when the Georgia native was posting videos of himself covering country songs online. The production of this song is very traditional-leaning, which is a sound that listeners haven’t heard from him in a while. The track is simply more proof that Brown cannot be placed in a genre box and that his sound is continuously evolving; the classic country production is a sound that perfectly matches Brown’s voice and will have fans begging for more.
“Whiskey Sour” is a refreshing change of pace from Brown’s more pop-influenced releases from the past couple of years. 2022 is shaping up to be another big year for the Georgia native. He is currently on the second half of his Blessed and Free Tour and has been confirmed to play at a couple of music festivals later this year. He is also slated to release an album this year, which he confirmed will feature this track.
