'Kat & Alex Side A' EP Review

After officially signing with Sony Music Nashville and making their debut in 2020, Kat & Alex have already left a mark on the country music industry. They are country artists to the bone with a Latin twist that leaves their fans wanting more. They teased their new EP Kat & Alex Side A by releasing an official video to their song “I Want it All” in February of 2022; since then their fans could not wait for the EP to drop.

The EP begins with “Let’s Find a Bar”- Kat & Alex wanted to tell their story as a couple while also introducing themselves to the country world making it out to be the perfect first entry on the EP. Showing their love for each other while incorporating the fun country, Latin, and soul vibe they encompass as a duo.

The only song on the project that they did not write is “Marry You.” This song was written by their labelmate, Maren Morris and busbee. The couple turned it into a duet and added a little Latin flare to make it their own. Although they didn't have a hand in the lyrics, when audiences listen, they can feel the seamless love between the two while also wanting to get up and dance.

“I Want It All” was the lead single, but what is unique is it is accompanied by a “Spanglish Version” on the EP which clearly sets them aside from their peers. "I Want It All" is an ode to their relationship, letting each other know they will be with each other through it all. The tune aims to touch the hearts of all the hopeless romantics out there with its passionate sweetness. With the Spanglish version, the two stay true to themselves and their roots; they're able to tell their story in both English and Spanish.

“5 on a Friday,” has the country rock feel and is a song that will definitely get audiences on the dance floor at any bar. The fun upbeat song has fun guitar solos, and a beat that you can't help but shake your hips to. When the chorus hits, so does the visual imagery as they sing, "Bare feed in the sand with the cool breeze / Cold beer in my hand 'neath the palm trees / You're a sunny day, you're a getaway / You feel like five on a Friday."
