"THE LITTLE THINGS" is the third track being released that precedes Kelsea Ballerini's highly-anticipated record SUBJECT TO CHANGE: her fourth full-length project. The exciting, fast-paced song is a fresh celebration of the small things that come with meaningful romance.
"THE LITTLE THINGS" begins with a banjo and signaling drum beats before diving into an immediate earworm of a melody. The instrumental is nostalgic and reminiscent of female '90s pop country with playful electric guitar and catchy background vocals.
Ballerini taps into the lower side of her vocal range for the endearing opening verse. She exclaims, "Save your money on the roses, baby / Just leave a daisy on the dashboard / Just pick me up in your old Bronco, baby / Don't gotta ride in on a white horse." The audience is thrown into Ballerini's headspace as she confesses what an ideal relationship looks like to her.

The chorus is the highlight. The jumping soundscape pulls back to pulsing handclaps as Ballerini continues her admiration for the small moments in life. She ends the chorus with the lines that sum up the message, "Back to the basics 'cause they're bigger than they seem, yeah / Give me that typical, simple love, it's the little things." When the phrase ends, listeners feel the rush of the jamming, magical instrumental once again.
"THE LITTLE THINGS" continues the jaunty, airy tone Ballerini is setting with the new era. It feels current, youthful, and completely fun.
