Lady A ‘What A Song Can Do’ Tour Review
LIVE MUSIC IS BACK! In the first show back on Long Island, at Jones Beach Amphitheater, Lady A brought their ‘What A Song Can Do’ Tour this past Friday night (July 30th). An absolutely magical night bringing country music back to the area, fans made their way into the gorgeous beachside venue early to catch all three of the opening acts, Tenille Arts, Niko Moon, and Carly Pearce.
Tenille Arts who had the honor of celebrating her first number one at country radio earlier this year, was up first. She welcomed fans back to live music with her set filled with songs that her fans knew and even a few new ones. She closed her set with that number one hit, “Somebody Like That”. A promising young talent in Nashville, Arts will absolutely gain tons of fans as this tour progresses.
Up next, Niko Moon brought the party with his laid-back, summer jams like, “No Sad Songs”, “Paradise To Me” and “Way Back”. He invited his beautiful wife, fellow singer-songwriter Anna Moon to the stage for a precious moment during “Dance With Me”, a song that he wrote with her. He paused the fun to truly acknowledge how grateful he was that the fans in the audience spent their hard earned money to come to the tour that night. The SONY recording artist also performed “Keep Me In Mind”, a song that he wrote for Zac Brown Band, among many, that have been hits for him as a songwriter. He closed out his set with “Good Time” which was he debut number one single.
Carly Pearce who is still celebrating an incredible year so far with a number one hit “I Hope You’re Happy Now”, CMA and ACM Award wins and being asked to be the next member of the Grand Ole Opry by her idol, Dolly Parton, took the stage next. Her set included some of her older hits, “Hide The Wine” and her debut number one, “Every Little Thing” as well as new songs from her latest project, 29 like “Messy” and “Liability”.
Although her original songs are incredible, her two covers, “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” originally by Shania Twain and “Ain’t Going Down Til The Sun Comes Up” the Garth Brooks smash showed her range and had the entire venue on their feet. “In case you were wondering…I’m so happy now!” she exclaimed to the crowd before singing “I Hope You’re Happy Now”. Charles Kelley, Lady A front man joined the songstress on stage to sing Lee Brice’s parts and it was a remarkable end to her set, showing her versatility, maturity and power house vocals.
Finally as the sun had set over the water, Lady A took the stage opening with their latest single, “Like A Lady” and their smiles and energy was contagious. Their set included hits from all of their studio albums like their songs from over a decade ago, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore”, “American Honey” and of course, “Need You Now” and then they sprinkled in songs like “Ocean”, “We Owned The Night”, “I Run To You”, and “Compass”. The chemistry between the three was palpable, their happiness to be performing for the fans once again could be felt from the front row of the pit to the very top of the venue.
They finally had the opportunity to perform some of the songs that they released during the past two years like their most recent number one, “What If I Never Get Over You”, as well as songs from their most recent project, What A Song Can Do. “We are so excited to be back out on tour, thank you so much for coming out to see us, we really, really appreciate it,” Hilary Scott said during the set. “We are excited for tonight, w know that you’ve already had a great time with everybody else who has played this stage this evening, but we want to do this next song, it’s the title track off our current record, it’s the name of this tour, and it really is, our love letter to y’all, so we hope you love it.”
They invited the entire tour line up back to the stage to perform a cover of “One Love”, a moment that was exhilarating for fans as they sang back all of those important lyrics back to the performers on stage. It was apparent that each act was just as happy to be back up on stage as the fans were to be back in the seats.
