MacKenzie Porter “Heaven Heard Me” Song Review

Canadian country singer-songwriter MacKenzie Porter released a new song titled “Heaven Heard Me” on Friday. Porter began to tease the song a week before the release with a scene from the song’s lyric video and later revealed that it was written about her husband, fellow musician Jake Etheridge. “Heaven Heard Me” was written by Dave Cohen, Porter, and Steven Lee Olsen with the production of Joey Moi. This song is Porter’s second solo single this year, in addition to the collaborations she’s worked on, including her feature on Dustin Lynch’s newest radio single “Thinking ‘Bout You,” which is currently on the rise.

The song begins with dreamy country-pop production and pleasing “ahs” from Porter. She starts the track by reminiscing on past heartbreak but quickly changes her tune when she remembers how she met her husband. This is evident as Porter sings, “Wondering if God was even listening / Was He busy while I was wishing? / But then you walked in the room, ordered a drink.” As the song continues, Porter uses religious imagery and themes to communicate how the love that she found was divine intervention. In the chorus, Porter declares, “I think heaven heard me / Hallelujah, here you are / Boy, I prayed and now you’re in my arms.”

The bridge is a particularly captivating part of the song where Porter sings, “Good Lord, Amen, you were worth the waiting / Good Lord, Amen, everything I was praying, oh.” Many listeners will either relate to this song or find comfort in it. Whether fans have found the one or are looking and praying for the one, this song has a universal message. It could even be used as a great first dance song at weddings.

“Heaven Heard Me” is another example of how Porter continues to consistently bring incredible songs to the country music scene. The relatability of the song’s message and the personal inspiration from Porter’s marriage make this song one to remember. Fans will be excited to know that they can hear Porter live this fall and winter on Jordan Davis’ ‘Buy Dirt Tour.’
