Morgan Wade ‘Reckless (Deluxe Edition)’ Review

Morgan Wade is kicking off 2022 with the much anticipated deluxe edition of her breakout album Reckless. The Virginia native released the original album in March 2021 on Thirty Tigers and she began to gain momentum in the Alt-Country/Americana spaces. That momentum quickly translated into playlist placements, radio airplay, and a record deal with Sony Music Nashville. Since signing the deal, her single “Wilder Days” was officially released to country radio and is currently rising on the airplay charts.

Much like the songs from the standard version of Reckless, the new ones have Wade’s signature grit and rock-tinged country sound. Guitar riffs are heard prominently on “Carry Me Home” and “The Night” which created a sound that takes you back in time. “When The Dirt All Settles” and “Through Your Eyes” have an anthemic rock sound that will surely translate into sing-along moments at her live shows. “Run” shows a different side of her artistry. It has a production that sounds perfect for country radio and Wade’s tone is noticeably smoother.

The singer doesn’t shy away from her struggles and real-life on these new additions. Wade touches on very serious topics such as mental health, sobriety, and unhealthy relationships. Her authenticity is refreshing in an era where people tend to downplay or distance themselves from their struggles. She also is very contemplative on “Carry Me Home” and “Through Your Eyes.” The latter of which is a stunning track about how the innocent words of a child forced her to contemplate and think introspectively about the life she’s living.

The closer of the record is a breathtaking cover of Elvis Presley’s legendary track, “Suspicious Minds.” Wade transformed the classic from a lively ballad to a more uptempo rock song. While the original has a retro big band sound, this version maintains the retro feel, but with a country-rock twist. The instrumentation features a very prominent acoustic guitar throughout, while she displays her vocal abilities on the chorus.

Reckless (Deluxe Edition) is just the beginning of an action-packed 2022 for Wade. “Wilder Days” is climbing the charts at country radio and she will be very busy on the road this year. She is supporting Ryan Hurd on select dates of his Tour De Pelago and opening for Luke Combs on his three stadium dates this summer. She will also be on quite a few festival lineups this year including Floydfest in her hometown of Floyd, VA, Under the Big Sky Festival, Windy City Smokeout, and C2C: Country to Country in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
