Neon Union “Beer Up” Song Review
Brand new country duo Neon Union is made up of Leo Brooks and Andrew Millsaps. Brooks grew up playing guitar and listening to the music of Hank Williams and George Jones. He’s made a name for himself in the industry by working on projects with pop and R&B artists like Mary J. Blige, Lauryn Hill, Pitbull, John Legend, and more. Milsaps played local venues in his home state of North Carolina before becoming a semi-finalist in the “Music City Song Competition.”
In early 2021, the group was signed to JAB Entertainment, the Nashville-based management, and production company headed by Jimmie Allen. The duo’s first musical venture was a feature on the track “Livin’ Man” that was showcased on Jimmie Allen’s latest LP Bettie James Gold Edition.
To close out 2021, they released their very first single “Beer Up” on December 30th, 2021.
The track begins with immediate catchy guitars and jaunty voices in the background signaling the party theme the song projects. When their voices come in, it’s easy to tell why they were encouraged to become a duo. Their voices evoke different feelings and unique timbres, but when they come together it sounds natural and energetic.
In the chorus the two sing, “We’re gonna have a party / Come on, come on get it started / The whole damn town’s invited / So beer up, party down, bring it on / Don’t need to overthink it / Just get those bottles clinkin’ / You know I wanna hear you sing it / Beer up, party down, bring it on.” The track’s overall message is to let go and have fun; a timely message everyone could use as we enter the new year.
