New Music Friday 8/25
Friday means new music from everyone's favorite country artists. Some releases are known about weeks (or months) in advance, and sometimes there are surprises. Often times the amount of new music can be overwhelming, so here is a roundup of some of the new music releases you should be listening to.
Zach Bryan by Zach Bryan
Bryan's new album was one of the most anticipated of the year, and it's finally here. The project features illuminating collaborations with Kacey Musgraves, The Lumineers, and The War & Treaty. Like all of Bryan's songs, these new tracks offer a real and honest look at lives of everyday people. His ability to tell a story remains unmatched thanks to songs like "East Side Of Sorrow," "Smaller Acts," and "Oklahoman Son." Bryan effortlessly sings about parts of everyday life, hopes for the future, and how heartbreak can change someone. He said of the album on his Instagram, "I just wrote some poems and songs that I want to share because I think they're special." Bryan remains as real as it gets.
Psychopath by Morgan Wade
Wade's sophomore album captures the country-rock attitude she wears so well. After releasing a phenomenal debut record such as Reckless, Wade extends on the sound she created while finding a way to push the boundary. The lyrics are simple and powerfully understated, allowing he inclusion of 90s indie rock and Americana folk to enhance the messages she sings of. Wade is reflective on a track like "Losers Like Me" and longing for love on a song like "Guns And Roses." Between her voice, writing, and persona, it's hard to identify exactly what makes her so special as an artist. All of these qualities work to make her a musician to be appreciated.
Standing Room Only by Tim McGraw
McGraw has already proven himself as an icon in music, but his new album speaks to his love and determination to make records he's proud of. The singer delivers melodies, hooks, and everything his fans love to hear. McGraw wrote in a social media post that he wanted to "record more meaningful, life affirming songs." That desire can be felt on a song like "Hold On To It." He also signs about helping a woman through a breakup on "Paperless Umbrellas." The reason behind his longevity is because he is able to move through each decade seamlessly. Always blending the roots of country music with what fans want to hear today. This is a project where the passion and intent is evident, and there is certainly a song on it for everyone.
"We Should Get Married" by Dan + Shay
The award-winning and multi-platinum duo have released a song to tug at the heartstrings of listeners. Once again, they prove they can sing a love song like no other can. It's a feel-good track about wanting to get caught up in the moment. There are elements of traditional country as well as a big band type sound. The chorus can sweep anyone off their feet, literally. Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney are gearing up for their new album Bigger Houses that is set to arrive next month. This song, and the music video for it, will leave everyone wanting more.
