On The Verge: 3 New Country Releases
As every Friday passes, there are numerous songs that come out from independent country artists whose songs are well-written, beautiful, or simply fun. We’ve compiled a list of songs that were released last week by independent acts that deserve much love and attention. Who knows, you might find your next favorite song.
1. “Seein’ Somebody” by Maggie Baugh
Maggie Baugh released the perfect song for the coming summer months. It’s a feel-good track about the in-between stage of falling for someone. When you’re not quite ready to tell everyone because you’re not sure where it’s going to go. “Every Friday night / I go out with my friends, but they don’t know why / I’m making other plans / gonna wonder where I’m going what I’m doing / but I won’t tell them anything.” It’s flirty and catchy, which suits Baugh’s vocal ability.
2. “8 Months” by Taylor Edwards
This country-pop track has already racked up the streaming numbers in the first few days of its release. Taylor Edwards seems to have captured what all the intense emotions feel like when you’re with someone who isn’t right with you. The second you’re out of that relationship, it feels like the weight of the world is finally off your shoulders. “Thanking God I gave you up / cause it felt like I was drunk for 8 months.” Edwards cleverly likens needing someone to needing a drink, and it’s all done in the most vibrant sound possible.
3. “What Do We Do Now” by Spencer Crandall
Spencer Crandall has a song that’s about what happens when things don’t go as we planned. Breakups can be messy, and his lyrics reflect all of the questions that come with it. “what do we do now / now that we can’t work this out / can we go from being in love back to friends or is this I guess I’ll see you around?” It has a groovy sound that feels relaxed, despite the honest lyrics about feeling lost. The song is perfect for any mood you might yourself in.
