Pistol Annies Announce Christmas Album and Release “Snow Globe”
After teasing fans on social media, country trio Pistol Annies revealed a long-awaited comeback with a full-length Christmas album titled Hell of a Holiday. The group made up of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley haven’t put out music together since 2018. The new LP will feature both originals and covers of classic Christmas songs like “If We Make It Through December,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “Auld Lang Syne.” It was produced by Frank Liddell and Eric Masse.
Hell of a Holiday is set to be released on Friday, October 22nd, but the Annies gifted fans early with the release of their original holiday tune fittingly titled, “Snow Globe.” The track begins with thumping bass notes and jolly handclaps. The song has a dreamy, fairytale-like story as Lambert begins the song by singing with her notable voice, “If I could put us in a snow globe / Ooh then baby we could let it go / And we could spin around in circles / In a world that’s all our own.” While Lambert sings the first few lines, Monroe and Presley can be heard softly harmonizing in the background igniting the refreshing feeling of what makes these artists working together so special.
When Monroe’s vocals in, she adds a sense of warmth to the song as she furthers the romantic, winter scene by describing the steps of a white church, an old Ford car, and a country store. Presley’s verse adds a sense of holiday fantasy as she sings, “We wouldn’t have to wait around for the magic to finally happen / We’d live right here in Tinseltown, cuddled up by the fire and laughing.”
As the song enters its final minute, a saxophone solo takes over to add a feeling of nostalgia reminiscent of other classic Christmas songs with woodwind instruments dominating the soundscape. “Snow Globe” features all the needed elements of a Christmas song. It’s catchy, it’s nostalgic, it’s intimate, and it transports listeners to an untroubled world.
