Jenna Paulette is a rising singer-songwriter with immense promise. The self-proclaimed "cowgirl" recently released her debut record The Girl I Was. Her signature sound harnesses the storytelling that makes country music so special. She shared the songs that she grew up on, and there are some familiar favorites.
1. "Wide Open Spaces" by The Chicks
While growing up on a ranch, this was the song Paulette would always sing when working with the cattle. She identified with the lyrics and it made her want to create the same type of songs.
2. "Laugh Till We Cried" by Jason Aldean
On the first listen Paulette thought to herself, "I gotta know who wrote this." When she discovered Aldean wasn't the one who wrote it, she realized one could make a career from songwriting.
3. "Amarillo By Morning" by George Strait or "Cowgirls Don't Cry" by Brooks & Dunn
Both of these songs land in the third position and for good reason. These songs helped Paulette realize a "cowboys" music could be for the girls too."
