Songs I Grew Up On with John Morgan

John Morgan is an up-and-coming country artist with guitar skills that will knock your cowboy boots off. Taking influences from bluegrass music, Morgan has written hit after hit. His song “Friends Like That” has garnered much attention and his track “Right In The Middle” was featured on the television series American Song Contest. Such an amazing artist has to come from somewhere, and John Morgan was kind enough to discuss the most influential songs from his childhood with The Nash News.

1. “Stranger in My House” by Ronnie Milsap

This was the first song Morgan picked. When talking about the tune, he highlighted how he was, “Always intrigued by how effortless his vocal was." He also talks about Milsap being a “talented musician."

2. "I'm Over You" by Keith Whitley

The next tune is Keith Whitley’s “I’m Over You." Morgan describes this as a song that will “rip your heart out," saying it got him “the first time he heard it." He then says that he’s, “always been a huge fan of Keith Whitley," and proceeded to highlight the singer's vocals and songwriting ability.

3. "Nine Pound Hammer" by Tony Rice

Tony Rice’s “Nine Pound Hammer” is the last track Morgan picked. “Tony Rice was probably one of my greatest guitar influences,” Morgan explains. He learned many of his guitar riffs and playing patterns from him as he grew into his own.
