Songs I Grew Up On with Mackenzie Carpenter

Mackenzie Carpenter is fresh off of the release of her self-titled debut EP. The singer-songwriter has written with Nicolle Galyon and Megan Moroney and loves to create the songs she sings just as much as she does performing them. Carpenter's songs include "Can't Nobody," "Jesus I'm Jealous," and "Don't Mess With Exes." Being raised in a musical family, Carpenter shared the three songs she grew up loving.

1. "Austin" by Blake Shelton

Carpenter, along with brothers Micah and Maclean, refer to this song as their "sibling song."

She explains, "It was the first song that we would put on in the car once my brother started driving." Carpenter noted that the melody and the story captivated them.

2. "That's What I Love About Sundays" by Craig Morgan

"Our daddy was a preacher growing up, so after church on Sundays we would turn it on and sing it all the way home," the singer says. The visuals this song would create in Carpenter's mind always bring her back to those childhood days.

3. "Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy" by Big and Rich

Carpenter hilariously points out that her mom would not let her and her siblings listen to this song. Once she heard it later on she thought, "Oh that makes sense," she shares.
