Michael James Ryan Busbee, known better as busbee, was a multi-talented songwriter and producer. He has done work for Christina Aguilera, Jason Aldean, Backstreet Boys, Lady A, and many other incredible artists. Here at The Nash News, we love learning about the origin of our favorite country songs, so let’s look at our top five favorite songs written by the late busbee.

1. “You Look Good” by Lady A

This hit ranked number nine on the Billboard US Hot Country Songs chart in 2017. busbee co-wrote the song with songwriters Ryan Hurd and Hillary Lindsey in early 2016. The song was originally for Thomas Rhett, but the group picked it up in hopes of a hit. With the help of busbee, the groups popularity was back on the rise.

2. “My Church” by Maren Morris

“My Church” was the debut single for Maren Morris in 2016. busbee was not only the key songwriter for this hit, but the co-producer with Morris. You can hear his inspiration of blues-inspired music in a lot of his work, especially this song. The hit won Morris her first-ever Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance.

3. “Summer Nights” by Rascal Flatts

busbee worked closely with the band, Rascal Flatts, and helped them write and produce three of their best songs, including “Summer Nights." This upbeat tune never failed to top charts, ranking number two on the Billboard US Hot Country songs of 2009.

4. “Dark Side” by Kelly Clarkson

“Dark Side” shows not only Clarkson’s range as a performer, but busbee’s range as a songwriter. Typically, busbee’s works are more upbeat and summer-sounding. However, “Dark Side” coveys a deeper message. This hit peaked number one on the Billboard US Dance Chart in 2011.

5. “H.O.L.Y.” by Florida Georgia Line

“H.O.L.Y.” was busbee’s only song with Florida Georgia Line, however, it was one of the most popular songs he has written. It topped 8 weekly charts, 4-year charts, and 1 decade chart; it reached number 5 on the Billboard US Hot Country Songs for the decade of 2010-2019. The song received many honors and awards as well. This hit is not like any other they have done, but it still rises to the top as one of their best, all thanks to the talented busbee.
