Travis Denning looks to keep his momentum going with his new EP Might As Well Be Me, out today. Denning reveals more of the man behind the artist with this six-song project.
The Georgia native grew up with a love of both country and rock music, which is evident in his recordings. Once in Nashville, he began honing in on his songwriting. Denning wrote with artists like Jason Aldean, Justin Moore, and Chase Rice. He was also one of the writers behind Michael Ray's "Her World Or Mine." Of course, Denning is most known for his no. 1 song "After A Few." The success of that song opened up a new world of possibilities for the singer.
"Red Round Here" sets the tone as first track. It exemplifies the kind of country music Denning wants to make. He sings about his love and appreciation for his way of living in the countryside. Compared to his previous work, this project already sounds like he has discovered who he wants to be as an artist.

Denning's heart is shown on this EP in songs like "She's On It." The song is about doing everything you can to get someone out of your head, but not having any luck. He sings, "No matter what he tries / To get her off his mind / I bet she's on it." "Don't Give A Truck" is more reflective and shows the singer's deeper side. He sings about the youth and learned lessons boys like him had to experience while learning to drive a truck.
The EP concludes with the song "If You Need Anything Down Here." There have been plenty of country songs about the loss of a loved one, but Denning finds a way to make it simple and relatable. He describes all of the things he wishes this person could still experience. "I bet it's nice up there this time of year / But if you need anything down here, have a red Chevrolet like yours drive by." Denning still possesses the storytelling and hooks from his past work, while carving out what his future sound will be.
