You're Invited To: 90s Country Night Presented by The Nash News
The Nash News is excited to put on its second '90s Country Night on Thursday, August 3rd from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Nashville at Assembly Food Hall in the Fifth and Broad complex.
Artists performing include Greylan James, Leah Marie Mason, Ashley Ryan, Grant Brown, Caleb Seth, Hobbs Sisters, David Tucker, Brandon Davis, and Allie Colleen.
Greylan James
At just 5 years old, Greylan James’ papaw gifted him his first guitar. From that moment on, whenever anyone would ask what he wanted to do in life, he responded, “I’m going to be a Country Music star.” Shortly thereafter, Greylan met his hometown hero, Kenny Chesney, who told him to “stay in school and learn how to write songs” - which is exactly what he did.
The Knoxville, Tennessee native moved to Nashville to pursue his first major publishing deal when he was just 18 years old. In 2018, Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) signed Greylan to a global publishing deal. He was featured on NBC’s The Voice and ranked one of the best guitarists in the world under 21 by Guitar Center Magazine’s Brotherhood of the Guitar Top 100.
Greylan has written songs for some of Country Music’s most notable artists, such as Chris Young, Blake Shelton, and Chris Janson. In 2020, he received a phone call from Chesney who let him know that he was cutting Greylan’s song “Happy Does.”
Leah Marie Mason
Leah Marie Mason never tries to be perfect. Instead, the North Carolina-born and Nashville-based singer, songwriter, and artist allows her edges to frame an intimate and infectious brand of Country that could resonate from a small town to the top of a big city. By doing so, she energizes the genre with universal pop appeal. By the age of 11, Leah started performing in a classic rock band with her older brother, belting out Heart and Pat Benatar covers. After a year at Berklee College of Music, she brought her talents to Nashville's Belmont University. Inspired by everything from the classic songwriting of George Strait, bluegrass of The Steeldrivers, and 21st century sound of Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa, she spent countless hours writing and honed a sharp signature style, resulting in her debut single “Far Boy.” Taking the reins of her career, Leah watched YouTube tutorials about uploading media to Spotify, outsourced cover art, and finally decided to launch a TikTok page to promote “Far Boy.” The song played over a video captioned, “I called my ex to hang out so he could listen to this song I wrote about him,” and it organically exploded with 13M views. After amassing tens of millions of views on TikTok and cracking over 20M streams across platforms independently, Leah made a warm introduction to fans with her debut EP Honeydew & Hennessy, out now, a collection of six carefully crafted tracks that serve as a time capsule for the growth and changes her life experiences have brought her. Continuing to magnify the scope of Country and the accessibility of pop all at once through her raw and vulnerable storytelling, “My only hope is that it can inspire someone else as well,” Leah states.
Ashley Ryan
With an “abundance of firepower” (Billboard), the Corona, California native is taking Nashville’s music scene by storm. An early penchant for poetry led to a natural progression into songwriting at 16, when her grandfather gifted her her first guitar. “I didn’t have anyone to sing my songs, so I started singing them myself, and it just seemed to work.” Shortly after discovering her vocal talents, and after giving college a try in her home state, she ventured east to Nashville to continue her journey (and college at Belmont University) in country music’s capital.
Shortly after the move to Music City, her musical talents were recognized by 4x GRAMMY® Award-winning country star Keith Urban at a private event. A quick dialogue between the two led to an impromptu duet of Keith’s hit song “Without You” - ultimately leading to an invitation to perform the duet again at Urban’s sold-out show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Capturing emotions from heartbreak to honky tonk, Ashley’s music provides listeners with an energy and authenticity that gives listeners a classic country tune with a modernized twist. “I grew up singing ‘Before He Cheats’ and ‘Gunpowder and Lead.’ I really love fiddle in a song - I love that old traditional country, the grungy female country with the sassy drop D guitar and rolling banjo. So that’s what you’ll get from me.”
Grant Brown
As a singer and songwriter, Grant Brown was born, raised, and currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. As a lifelong Clemson Tiger, Grant spent many weekends in Death Valley and on the water at Lake Hartwell with friends and family.
At a young age, Grant was given his first guitar by his parents where he taught himself how to play chords and was drawn to singing. He was part of his church youth choir, praise brand, and later, the lead singer in the band, Sloan Street Groove in college. Grant fell in love with performing for people.
In 2017, Grant auditioned for The Voice in Baltimore, Maryland where he made it to the final round of auditions. In 2019, Grant auditioned for American Idol in Savannah, Georgia where he received the coveted Golden Ticket to Hollywood, California. Surrounded by unbelievably talented artists, Grant was inspired to do more, put in more work, and increase his skill sets.
Raised on country, Grant’s musical idols include Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Brooks and Dunn, and Brad Paisley, however; he also loves artists with unique sounds, clever writing styles, and catchy melodies such as Corey Smith and Jason Mraz. Some of Grant’s current inspirations are Quinn XCII, Kai Straw, Judah and the Lion, and TwentyOne Pilots.
Caleb Seth
Caleb Seth is a singer-songwriter that seamlessly combines the honest lyricism of country greats, with a captivating and timeless, soulful voice. Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and raised in West Tennessee with a big family - Caleb Seth was separated at a young age and spent his early years in foster care. Adopted at 7 years old, Caleb was raised on different styles of music like Pop, Rock, Country, and R&B. His love for music grew in his new home as he started playing music at 12 years old. His sound is truly a testament to the music he was raised on. In Caleb's songs, you can hear the R&B influences of Boyz 2 Men & Michael Jackson, all the way to the songs of Tim McGraw, and Rascal Flatts, tied together with a subtle Rock & Roll edge - similar to artists like Nickelback & Daughtry.
After graduating from high school, and shortly after heading to the University of Memphis, he obtained a full scholarship to play keys in a touring University music group. A year and a half later he dropped out to pursue country music full-time. In March of 2022, Caleb Seth began doing live streams on TikTok, and his following grew at rapid speed to over 50K TikTok followers. Just recently in the beginning of 2023, Caleb Seth signed to Grey Area Music - a record label located in Nashville, TN to kickstart his country music career. To Caleb, music is his universal language, his voice, and the way he communicates with the world. In his words, it is the only way he knows how to fully express himself.
Hobbs Sisters
Rising country artists, Hobbs Sisters, are a twin sister duo known for their powerful harmonies, described by American Songwriter as “so strong it can blow your hair back, yet, so precise that the voices still sound like one.” This distinct sound can be heard throughout their music, which was influenced by a love of 90s country and artists such as Shania Twain and Martina McBride. Raised in Pittsburgh but now based in Nashville, they balance a full touring schedule that includes opening for artists such as Lady A and Russell Dickerson while consistently writing with talented up-and-coming songwriters in Nashville to develop their 90s country meets modern country style.
David Tucker
As the city of Nashville has grown, David Tucker’s boots have been on the ground in more ways than one. By day he’s worked as a welder, building the new skyscrapers that define the skyline; by night he’s been writing, performing in town, and honing his craft. He has diversified his skills, rounding himself out as an all-around musician by writing, singing, and playing guitar, bass, drums, and piano, amongst others, while also applying his artist’s ear by co-writing and producing projects for others. David grew up in Augusta, Kentucky, where his love for music was cultivated by singing in his father's church. After building a following in his home state, the momentum of his music led him to Nashville, where he’s since paid his dues performing in venues from local hotspots to CMA stages. In a time when live music has been put on hold, David has been crafting a new musical vision for himself, grounded in his Kentucky roots and upbringing. His new songs shine a light on country music as a truth-telling force. His sound and the impression he makes are both relatable and memorable for his fans. Experiencing David’s music, you’ll hear love, heartache, records spinning, and candles burning. His songs share real truths from his own life and those of his collaborators on their journeys through love, music, Nashville, and more. David faces his challenges and determination for a music career head-on, with an affirmative attitude grounded in faith and service to others. From helping neighbors in need, to funding cancer research through his board membership of Scott Hamilton’s CARES Foundation, giving back to his community is a priority. Drawing from influences from 90s country and gospel, to rap to rock & roll, his diverse background makes this his most authentic music yet.
Brandon Davis
Last year, Brandon Davis was personally invited to join Tim McGraw as an opener on the ‘McGraw Tour 2022’ in addition to embarking on his own headlining tour across the US, which included numerous sold-out shows. He was deemed a “sensation” by PEOPLE Magazine and was named MusicRow’s DISCovery Award Winner in February. Listen to his latest EP release, Jesus and Jesse James.
Allie Colleen
Allie Colleen is a Country Artist, singer and songwriter who recently released her well-received debut album, STONES. Her music style defines how life shaped her, alongside the personal lyrics and transparency in both her vocals and performance. She is no stranger to the music industry and has had a passion for singing and songwriting since a young age, which has garnered her a reputation of being a notable songwriter with an iconic-sounding voice. Her impeccably strong voice with hints of timeless tradition falls between classic country and the emerging country sound. The room never fails to silence as AllieColleen begins to sing about the layers of love and heartbreak that have shaped her. Some of her newest songs bring witty lyrics and a connection to the song, unlike most today.
