You're Invited To: The Nash News' 13th On The Verge Writer's Round

The Nash News is excited to put on our 13th writer's round with independent and up-and-coming country artists this coming Thursday, January 5th from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Nashville at Assembly Food Hall in the Fifth and Broad complex.

Artists performing include Emily Roth, Taryn Papa, Ellis Griffin, Tory Grace, Charles Walker, Hayley Payne, Maddie Ettrich, Hunter Thomas Mounce, and Brian Goyette.

Get to know the artists and their music below:

Emily Roth

Emily Roth is a singer/songwriter that has her own distinct style and sound but holds the heart of country close to her own in her words and rhythm. She brings a level of vulnerability to the front, which makes her music easily relatable. Her base is pure and deep which resonates with the history of country music’s past. Born and raised in Tennessee and the coast of North Carolina, she is small-town rooted, yet her sound flows as easy as the ocean breeze.

Taryn Papa

Taryn Papa's music is the soundtrack to endless summers. Blending the timeless sound of 1990s country with the modern melodies of 21st-century pop, she bridges the gap between the classic and the contemporary, creating a warm sound that's every bit as powerful as the Martina McBride records that first captivated her attention as a teenager. Taryn began creating transformative moments of her own, singing the National Anthem at various events before resettling in Nashville. Drawn to the honky-tonks that filled the city's Lower Broadway district with music, she quickly found a new home onstage, where she spent years playing marathon shows four nights a week. Those gigs sharpened her vocals to a powerful point, and she spent the hours between shows taking hold of nearly every aspect of her career, from designing her own merchandise to booking her own shows to writing original songs.

Ellis Griffin

Growing up just outside Monroe, NC, Ellis Griffin credits his grandpa, whom he lived with at a young age, for his love of country music. His tastes in music never strayed; with artists such as George Strait, Randy Travis, and Josh Turner continuing to influence his writing and vocal style today. Ellis’ strong baritone voice and gentle, unassuming demeanor are a breath of fresh air. With his tall, thin build, southern drawl, and genuine smile it’s easy to tell that Ellis loves to sing, and loves country music. Ellis released three singles in 2022 to all streaming platforms. His fourth release, “Longer” will be available in late January 2023.

Tory Grace

Tory Grace is a singer-songwriter and recording artist local to Nashville, TN. Dedicated to the art of country music, she finds passion in writing and performing songs that she hopes others can relate to and find healing in. You can listen to Tory Grace on all streaming platforms now!

Charles Walker

Hailing from the mountains of Boone, North Carolina, Charles Walker first emerged in 2017 with the Whole Again EP, a collection of songs reflecting influences from both modern emo and the classic alt-country records that define the region. The EP showcases a rare duality in an artist that cut his teeth in songwriter rounds and coffee shops, before building his fanbase at DIY house shows and clubs across the country.

Hayley Payne

Kentucky native Hayley Payne has had music in her blood for as long as she can remember. While she began her musical journey participating in the local community theater and playing piano, there was one genre in particular that tugged on her heartstrings the most – country music.

At 23 years of age, Hayley has graced many stages, including the legendary Bluebird Cafe, The Listening Room Café, and Whiskey Jam in Nashville, Tennessee. She has had the honor of opening for country icons Lee Ann Womack, Pam Tillis, Terri Clark, and Suzy Bogguss.

Hayley released two new singles in 2022, which were streamed over 650,000 times from over 167,000 listeners all over the world. Her music has been featured on CMT.com, The Country Network, Countrytown, Today’s Country Magazine, and several other country music platforms. Her newest single, “Runnin’ Late,” debuted on Spotify’s Fresh Finds Country playlist. Hayley thrives on telling her story through her music in a relatable, lighthearted way. Maddie Ettrich

25-year-old Maddie Ettrich is a Canadian-born indie-pop singer/songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. Inspired by personal stories of love, youth, and party mischief, Maddie's unique blend of exciting melodies and honest lyrics has struck a chord with local audiences.

Hunter Thomas Mounce

Hunter Thomas Mounce is a country artist originally from Kansas City, MO. After 6 short years in Nashville, he has released an album as well as multiple singles. Hunter is honored to be part of Music City's Songwriter Scene.

Brian Goyette

Country music singer/songwriter Brian Goyette from Greendale, Wisconsin has had a passion for music all his life, and his musical influences include 2000’s country artists like Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, and Jason Aldean, but also modern country artists like Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, and Riley Green.
