You're Invited To The Nash News' 18th On The Verge Writer's Round
The Nash News will host its 18th writer's round with independent and up-and-coming country artists this coming Thursday, March 9th from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Nashville at Assembly Food Hall in the Fifth and Broad complex.
Artists performing include JoJo Scott, Korie Burton, Alex Meingast, Julia Lauren, Zach Ray, Rusty Steel, Julia Still, Skylar Love, and Xoë Miles. Get to know the artists and their music below.
JoJo Scott
JoJo Scott’s simple yet catchy melodies matched with her adoration for the sounds of the 70s blend together creating a vibey yet intimate sound in her acoustic pop music. Scott’s bright personality and eye-catching style add to the charm of her honest songwriting. Her latest single ‘Honey Girl’ is about heartbreak and longing with a touch of magic.
Korie Burton
Korie Burton is a South Carolina native with three passions: music, football, and dogs! (Coffee is also a close fourth) As graduate of the Middle Tennessee State University recording industry program, Korie spends most of her days drinking coffee and co-writing around Nashville. She writes a little in lots of genres, but her love is in country music! So sit back and relax, she can’t wait for you to hear her music (and probably a few stories about her dog too).
Alex Meingast
Alex Meingast is an up-and-coming singer/songwriter who hails from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Originally a jazz guitarist, Alex started writing songs in college, inspired by the likes of the Beatles, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift. He has lived in Nashville for two years, writing, singing, and recording to his heart’s content.
Julia Lauren
Julia Lauren is a New Jersey native singer-songwriter based in Nashville. After discovering a Taylor Swift album at the age of 12, Julia was inspired to pick up the guitar and start learning herself. Since then, she has continued to pursue her passion for writing and singing. Some of her biggest influences are John Mayer, Taylor Swift, and LÈON. Julia released her first acoustic pop single “Holdin’ Onto You,” in March of 2022. She’s excited to continue on her musical journey and create more music for the world to hear.
Zach Ray
Originally from Blanchard, Oklahoma. Zach Ray got his start singing on the stage at his home church. Raised on Country music and Jesus, you’ll find his songs focus on the important things in his life; God, his wife, family, and life in general. Currently, he is living in Nashville with his wife, Brittney. He released his first EP at the end of 2019, and his second EP "Roots" in the summer of 2022.
Rusty Steel
From rehearsing with his brothers to performing all around the world with some of the most influential bands and musicians, Rusty Steel is a man of many talents. A skilled musician with an iconic voice Rusty has been known for his genre-bending abilities and his electric live performances. From the small town of Erwin, TN he began his music career in the family bluegrass band. He would eventually go on to open for George Jones at the age
of 14 and perform with Ralph Stanley, Earl Scruggs, Quiet Riot, and Warrant among others throughout his career. Rusty is truly a little bit rock and a little bit roll with his country roots always shining through. He signed with Nashville-based record label Tower Music Inc and released his first lead single “Who I Am, Who I Ain’t” in 2022 earning him a spot on the Music Row Charts for 6 weeks. His second radio single “Shelter” is on track to surpass the success of its predecessor. Rusty Steel is an abundance of onstage charisma, a distinct voice, an unapologetic passion for his craft, and a wildly charming personality. He’s a ‘good old boy, living life one boot across the line’ and making music along the way.
Julia Still
The small-town girl with big dreams. Still was born and raised in Southwestern Virginia, in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. She displayed a talent for singing from a very early age and at the tender age of four she discovered a passion for singing. Determined, Still went on to hone her skills in musical theater, where she landed multiple roles, including the role of Belle in an off-Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast. Around age 19 she discovered a love for country and began writing her own songs. She signed with Nashville-based record label, Tower Music Inc., and her debut album “Hard to Believe” will be available March 17, 2023.
Skylar Love
Skylar Love is an emerging artist that hails from Nashville TN. You really can't put a title to her style it’s a mix of singer/songwriter meets alt/pop/rock with a whimsical dark twist. She is a unique talent with music that is energetic, compelling, and passionate with the ability to speak to the heart with her expressive and moving lyrics.
Xoë Miles
Xoë Miles is an award-winning alt pop songwriter and vocalist born and raised in Texas. She is new to Nashville and looks forward to being around other artists who will inspire her. Xoë is a self-taught musician who has traveled across the U.S. performing her original music. She is a recording artist who is now producing/engineering her own music.
