You're Invited To: The Nash News' 22nd On The Verge Writer's Round
The Nash News will host its 22nd writer's round with independent and up-and-coming country artists this Thursday, April 6th from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Nashville at Assembly Food Hall in the Fifth and Broad complex.
Artists performing include Tatum Scott, Audra Mclaughlin, Aniston Pate, Sami Lin, Ashton Butler, Cassidy Best, Al David, Nell Maynard, and Shawn Ward. Get to know the artists and their music below.
Tatum Scott
Tatum Scott, the 20-year-old singer/songwriter is from High Point, North Carolina and just made the big move to Music City. She has been singing since she was 6 years old and has been showcased all through the Carolinas. Most notably, The Lexington Barbecue Festival as well as the Carolina Classic Fair. She has been in Nashville for a very short time and has already played many incredible venues including The Bluebird Café, The Cambria Hotel, Margaritaville Hotel, and Sonny’s in Germantown. Tatum looks forward to continuing to grow and develop as an artist in Nashville.
Audra Mclaughlin
Audra McLaughlin is the Country Soul Singer/Songwriter from Glenolden, PA, who gained international recognition as a member of Team Blake on season 6 of NBC’s, The Voice. She received the infamous four-chair turn from the celebrity coaches and charmed industry veterans and fans alike with her powerhouse vocals and signature rasp, taking her to the finals. Shortly after wrapping The Voice, Audra made her way to Nashville. In 2020, she signed a publishing deal with Jimmy Mattingly and Johnny Garcia and is a spokesperson for renowned vocal coach Kati Henricks’ new masterclass series. She has also sold out Bluebird Cafe and The Listening Room four times each.
Aniston Pate
Aniston Pate is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter from a small town in West Texas. She is currently pursuing artistry and songwriting while attending Belmont University. She finds inspiration in Texas red dirt country artists like Wade Bowen & Randy Rogers as well as women like Miranda Lambert and Lainey Wilson. Since moving to Nashville, she has frequented popular writer’s rounds, played rowdy downtown shows, and written with some of Nashville’s best songwriters on music row. Aniston’s music is natural, honest, and about real life. She will tug on your heartstrings one minute and have you wanting to two-step the next! You won’t want to miss this Texas gal.
Sami Lin
Sami Lin, originally from Chicago, is now a Nashville-based singer, songwriter, performer, and music blogger. Sami Lin graduated with a degree in Songwriting from Belmont University. Sami Lin’s soulful voice, catchy hooks, and lyrics engage the listener and keep them humming along while blending traditional sounds with contemporary music.
Ashton Butler
Ashton Butler is a Singer/songwriter born and raised in Murray Utah. He grew up listening to every genre of music from old country classics and old rock and roll, to modern-day pop and everything in between. He started writing music at the age of 8 years old but has been playing guitar and singing since he was 6. In 2015, He started getting into the studio and started producing some of his original content. In 2019, Ashton moved to Nashville Tennessee where he is playing live and recording as well as working on new music constantly. As a singer/songwriter, he always keeps the famous quote by Pablo Picasso in mind. “The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will."
Cassidy Best
Cassidy Best lives by the motto “Show up for people.” Whether that be bringing her best to the writer’s room on a weekday morning, or supporting her friends at a show on a Saturday night, Cassidy aims to spread warmth, kindness, and truth through everything she does. Originally from Murfreesboro, TN, she moved to Nashville in 2015 to major in songwriting at Belmont University. During her time at Belmont, Cassidy honed her craft and pursued a career as an artist, releasing a solo-written album, Can’t Stay Long, in 2017. After graduating in 2019, Cassidy decided she needed to see the world outside of Middle Tennessee and moved to New York City for a year, where she gained invaluable life experience (and song material). Since returning to Music City in September of 2020, Cassidy has shifted her focus from an artist pathway to pure writing. Since then, she’s become obsessed with co-writing with her friends, meeting new artists, teaching herself to produce demos, and collaborating with everyone she can.
Al David
With an unmistakable voice and catchy hooks, independent recording artist, Al David, moved to Nashville in 2020 amidst the global pandemic in hopes of finally achieving his lifelong dreams. In what most call a “ten-year town”, he attempts to beat the clock and is already making headway by consistently releasing quality music and backing it up with captivating live performances. Nell Maynard
Nell Maynard is a pop and country songwriter who has been in Nashville for five years. She has cuts with rising artists such as Lauren Weintraub, Chris Housman, and Royale Lynn.
Shawn Ward My name is Shawn Ward!! I grew up in a small town called East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania where I learned country music from my dad playing George Strait, Keith Whitley Pat Green, and more.
