Zac Brown Band ‘THE COMEBACK’ Album Review
Warner Music Nashville/Homegrown Zac Brown Band has been topping charts for over a decade now. The talent and dedication they bring to the genre of country music are hard to beat. With six consecutive albums reaching the top 10 on the Billboard 200, five consecutive albums debuting at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart, winning three Grammy awards, selling more than thirty million singles and nine million albums, accumulating practically ten billion catalog streams, and gaining numerous other titles throughout their career, it goes without saying they are a force to be reckoned with.
Today, October 15th, the band released their highly anticipated new album, THE COMEBACK. This new 15 song project is the band’s latest release since The Owl in 2019. They couldn’t have timed the release of this masterpiece any better as they are currently lighting up stages for The Comeback Tour, making fans eager to hear more. The star of the show, Zac Brown, has a co-writer credit on every track and played a huge part in co-producing the whole record beside a familiar collaborator, Ben Simonetti. With the release of this new album, the band continues to prove why they’re best known for their dynamic melodies, genre-bending sounds, and of course their positive and inspirational lyrics.
After the crazy and unexpected year of 2020, as everyone is still trying to recover, what the lead singer stated in a press release is exactly what is needed to hear. “The Comeback celebrates our collective resilience as a community.” Said Zac Brown. “This music is about standing together and rediscovering our roots and what makes us human. We feel incredibly blessed to be back out on the road again, sharing these new songs with our fans. The only good thing about getting knocked down is The Comeback when it comes back around.”
The project opens with a pre-released song titled “Slow Burn”. The lyrical content throughout this track hits the nail on the head about the excitement of falling in love for the first time. “There are very specific memories that are tied to being in love for the first time. ‘Slow burn’ captures the feeling of going back to the places where the details of all those experiences that helped shape you come rushing back.” Said the lead singer.
“Slow Burn” isn’t the only song on the LP that’ll be recognized quickly by fans. The majority of the middle portion of the project is made up of pre-released songs. The second track “Out in the Middle”, the fifth track “Same Boat”, the sixth track “Stubborn Pride”, the seventh track “Fun Having Fun”, the ninth track “Old Love Song”, and the eleventh track “Paradise Lost On Me” are all already out and are loved by fans across the country.
Although every track that completes this project has a beautiful meaning behind it, two standouts are “Love & Sunsets” and “Closer To Heaven.” Two different sets of lyrics that so effortlessly get across the same heartfelt meaning. Money may not be able to buy happiness, but the purest and most appreciated things in life, like love and sunsets, can be obtained with an empty wallet. These ballads and Brown’s soothing, raspy voice can fill your eyes with tears, and keep you thankful for the little blessings in life.
The project wraps up with an upbeat, feel-good track, titled “Don’t Let Your Heart.” It’s easy to get caught up in the instruments and melody that makes you get up and want to dance, but if you truly dive into the lyrics you will grasp onto some unforgettable advice. Don’t let the insane parts of the world turn you cold. Be present. Life is too short to not do what you love. “Don’t let the dark shade your shine / Gotta lose yourself sometimes / and dance out in rain / When the world has gone insane / Learn to make some lemonade / Don’t you let it slip away / Don’t let your heart let go of love babe.”
There is no doubt that this project is going to follow in the footsteps of the band’s others and become an instant classic. They created a piece for every emotion in this album and spread the message pf positivity that the world will be happy to hear, as this year is a comeback for everyone.
